The Color Vibe 5k = Awesome Fun!!!

Hubby and I did The Color Vibe 5k today, and it was so much fun.  I'm proud of both of us for signing up for it and doing it.  There was a nice crowd there and everyone was excited about it.

Before the 5k began
My final time ended up being 50 mins and my GPS tracker said I only did 2.9 miles, so I guess I must have cut corners too much. lol  But that's ok.  I'm still proud of having done it, and I seriously did move lots faster than I usually do when I'm walking.  I walked most of it, but I did have a couple spurts of jogging.  I discovered that the shoes I was wearing, were not really made for jogging/fast walking, because the balls of my feet were killing me after the first mile, but I kept on going.

Afterwards :)
I can definitely say that this will not be our last 5k (and eventually we'll move up from the 5k).  I'm glad we chose a color run as our first 5k, because it made it so much fun.  I'll be checking the web often for upcoming runs in our area, so we can continue doing this.

So happy I have such a wonderful
hubby to do things like this with!

Fell off the wagon, but I'm back on it now :)

At the beginning of this year, I "said" I was ready to commit to a healthier lifestyle and make positive changes in my life.  I did ok for a little while...  and then I lost track and completely fell off the wagon!

It's time to change that!!!!!

So far, I've exercised for at least 30 mins every day this week.  I'm trying a new approach to eating, which is finding out my TEE/TDEE (Total Energy Expenditure/Total Daily Energy Expenditure) and eating around that number for awhile to reset my metabolism.  I work 4 days a week, and I'm off 3 days a week, so I calculated my numbers based on that, but I took the average of the numbers to find a daily calorie goal.  Once I've done that for awhile, I'll start my calorie deficits to start losing weight.  I may gain some weight right now, but it's for the greater good (getting my metabolism functioning efficiently again).  I'm not worried about it, because I'm on the right track now!!

Find your TEE/TDEE at http://www.health-calc.com/diet/energy-expenditure-advanced

And on this exercise and being healthier note, hubby and I are doing our first 5k this Saturday.  We are doing the Color Vibe.  I know I'll probably end up walking most of it, but I'm hoping to get a few spurts of jogging in there.  My plan is to time this one, so that I can work on improving that time before my next 5k.  Because this one will NOT be my last!!!

Current stats:
weight: 200 lbs
TDEE: 2600 (I'm eating around this for a few weeks to reset my metabolism, then I'll create a deficit)
Goal weight: whatever puts me at a healthy body fat percentage and makes me feel good about myself :)

January Results

I started my journey to a healthier me on January 1st, of this year.  I started at 210 lbs.  By my weigh in on February 4th, 5 weeks after I started, I am down to 202.4.  That is a 7.6 lb loss!!!  I'm super excited with these results.

There was a week in there that I didn't lose anything, but thankfully, I didn't gain that week either.  So, I'm averaging around 1.5 lbs lost per week.  I'm hoping I continue doing so well.

Can't wait to post what my February results will be!!

Diet Bet

I joined a diet bet today.  It's an online bet where you log in with your current weight, and your goal is to lose 4% of your starting weight in 4 weeks.  The bet on the one I joined was for $5.  After the 4 weeks are up, the people/person, that loses the 4% of their weight, gets the jackpot money.  I'm hoping this will help me some.

To begin, you have to take a full body pic, and a pic of the scales with you standing on them so that the site "judges" can verify that it looks valid (obviously they don't want a skinny person saying they weigh something larger and then saying they lost it all. lol).  Here are my pics...

They give you a word to use in your scale pic, so they know
it's a current pic and taken after they tell you to weigh in.
So, according to the math, I need to lose 8.2 lbs in the next 4 weeks (205 x .04 = 8.2).  I managed to lose right around 5.5 lbs in January, so I think with a little more dedication, I can do this.  Dedication means being more accurate with my calorie counting and measuring, and actually getting in a bit more exercise.

2013 is my year!!!!

I've decided that 2013 is the year that I plan to really do something for ME.  I'm ready to lose this weight, once and for all.  I've been overweight as long as I can remember, and it's seriously time for a change.  I don't expect instant results, and I know that it'll take time and effort.  I'm ready for it to happen!!!

I've got 11 months left in this year to do see more results.  I started on January 1st, and I'm down 5 lbs.  That isn't "bragging rights" for some people, but for me, it's great.  If I do nothing but 5 lbs a month for this whole year, that's still 60 lbs off by the end of the year!  But I'll take more of a loss or less of a loss, each month.  I'll go with the flow, and be happy for all my accomplishments.

Now for numbers... I started the year at 210 lbs.  OMG, did I just post that publicly??  Yeah, I did.  So now I'm down 5 lbs.  So for January, I'm down to 205 lbs (204.8 to be exact!!).  I need to lose around 80 lbs, so if I can do close to that 5 lbs a month I just mentioned, I'll be at goal in a little over a year.  That sounds like such an amazing thing to say!!!

A quote I saw recently really spoke to me.  I've started this journey so many times, and then I've given up on it.  I've got to stick with it this time.

"Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it.  The time will pass anyway."
-Early Nightingale

I can't even tell you how many times I could have reached my goal if I hadn't given up.  Two years ago, I started the journey and gave up.  Guess what?  Two years still passed, even though I gave up.  I could have stuck with it, and now I'd be where I need to be.

One goal hubby and I have discussed some, but haven't actually looked into much, is doing a 5k.  I can walk it pretty easy right now, but I don't do it very fast.  I need to walk more often, so it will become easier for me.  And maybe once I begin walking more often, I'll be able to eventually jog or run some.
